Postdoc! Welcome to the Data Diversity Lab. We are thrilled to have you on board and look forward to working with you. Feel free to contact each other and find support among your new peers. The list below consists of resources specifically compiled for our postdoctoral associates in the lab. We hope this will help you start your journey in our lab, the iSchool, the UA, and Tucson.
Credentials and connections
- For more info on setting up your UA NetID (after completing all hiring paperwork), go here (UA HR > New Employee Onboarding). You can do this once your I-9 and new hire paperwork are complete.
- The UA Postdoctoral Affairs office schedules social events, NPA trainings, and more. We encourage you to get familiar with their resources and attend their events.
- UA Postdoctoral Association (UAPA), The UAPA aims to help connect fellow Postdocs at UA, support their professional development, and engage with the wider university community advocating on their behalf. You can find more information here.
- Prepare for a headshot photo to be scheduled by the lab student worker Kennedy Gezella kennedygezella@arizona.edu. Your photo will go up onto our own website.
- Your UA email will be added to our general iSchool email listservs to keep you up to date on all program communications.
- To get your UA physical ID you will go into the Student Union to get your photo taken and retrieve your CatCard.
On-boarding
Please be sure to keep in touch with the PI and lab manager and coordinate your on-boarding meeting during your first week of starting date. You will find all the relevant documentation for onboarding under “Management > Lab Procedures” in our Owncloud server.

Housing, transportation, and city
There is a number of resources that are probably relevant for those who are new to Tucson:

- The Tucson city bus system is currently free (as of Spring 2024).
- The University offers a food pantry for all enrolled/employed individuals. Please reach out to your PI and explain your situation if you ever consider using this resource.
- The County Library system has Culture Passes to explore the Sonoran Desert and local attractions for free.

- BIO5 Postdoctoral Fellowship: The BIO5 Postdoctoral Fellowship is an internal funding mechanism for outstanding postdoctoral researchers at the University of Arizona who are engaging in research projects aligned with the mission of the BIO5 Institute. - Postdoctoral Research Development Grants: Postdoctoral Research Development Grants (PRDG) were established to support University of Arizona (UArizona) postdoctoral scholars in the development of their independent research skills to advance their career goals.
